Johnson Controls opens Pa. test labs

Johnson Controls Inc. has opened two new performance-test laboratories for commercial air-conditioning equipment at its Grantley Technology Center in York, Pa.

The labs will verify the operating performance of air-handling units and air-cooled chillers, as well as augment research, development and test capabilities at the Grantley Technology Center, which also houses advanced labs for underfloor-air distribution systems and water-cooled chillers.

Johnson Controls named to new Maplecroft Climate Innovation Indexes on Bloomberg

Johnson Controls today announced its inclusion in two new Maplecroft Climate Innovation Indexes (Maplecroft CIIs) that identify top performers in climate-related innovation and carbon management. The Maplecroft CIIs launched in January 2010 on the BLOOMBERG PROFESSIONAL® service.

Johnson Controls shareholders approve majority vote standard

Shareholders of Johnson Controls Inc. on Wednesday approved an investor proposal recommending that the company’s directors be elected by a majority of shareholders.

The corporate governance proposal was offered by Laborers National Pension Fund, which has pressed the issue with many companies across the country. Currently, directors can be elected if they get less than a majority of shareholders’ consent.

Grand Junction, Colorado buildings go green

The City of Grand Junction is starting 2010 a little greener. Officials say that will make your tax dollars go farther. 

For about two years, city leaders have been working on a project to make buildings more energy efficient. The City has been working toward a goal of reducing energy consumption at all city buildings and facilities by 20 percent by 2012. 

In 2008, consultants from Johnson Controls began reviewing power and water consumption at all of the city’s forty-four buildings.  The consultants suggested how changes in lighting, water, heating and cooling systems could lead to much greater energy efficiency.

Johnson Controls announces quarterly dividend

The Directors of Johnson Controls, Inc. have authorized a regular quarterly cash dividend of $0.13 per common share. The dividend is payable April 2, 2010 to shareholders of record March 12, 2010.

Johnson Controls has paid consecutive dividends since 1887.

Johnson Controls delivers energy efficiency at University of Oklahoma

Various campus buildings received energy-efficient upgrades under a performance-based contract with Johnson Controls, said a spokeswoman for the OU Physical Plant.

The upgrades have been in place for more than a year and will continue into this semester, said plant spokeswoman Amanda Hearn.

“When that process is complete, we expect to see an annual reduction in energy use equivalent to 415 single-family homes,” Hearn said.

Johnson Controls: Policies must drive demand for electric vehicles

In a talk at the opening plenary of the Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA) conference in Washington, DC, former New York Governor George Pataki called for a 40% market penetration of electric drive vehicles in the US by the end of the decade.

Mary Ann Wright, VP and Managing Director, Johnson Controls Business Accelerator for Advanced Energy Storage Solutions, said that the significant investments in the electric drive and battery industry made last year through ARRA were a great first step, but that those investments needed to be leveraged with ongoing supportive policies, particularly in demand creation.

Johnson Controls seeks to
sustain 22 percent growth in Middle East

DUBAI – Johnson Controls, a US-based provider of energy and operational efficiency for buildings, said on Tuesday it was optimistic about sustaining the growth trend in the Middle East with green building concept fast gaining currency in the region.  

The $38 billion group, which has its regional office in Jebel Ali, said growth prospects in the region, particularly in the GCC, have never been brighter.
