State and local officials expect word next month on a proposal to greatly expand the retrofitting of buildings in an effort to save energy and create jobs.
The proposal seeks $65 million from the federal stimulus package to develop new financing models for a major expansion of energy efficiency efforts in Milwaukee, Madison and Racine, said Judy Ziewacz, head of the state Office of Energy Independence.
Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corp., the Madison-based non-profit group that runs the state Focus on Energy program, and Johnson Controls’ Milwaukee-based building efficiency business are partners on the $65 million grant application.
