Hispanic students find inspiration during tour of Johnson Controls Inc. Technical Center

Eddie Leon dreams of owning his own business someday, possibly designing or repairing cars.

“I am into cars, and how they work,” the 16-year-old Hamilton High School sophomore said.

So Eddie was fascinated as he toured the Johnson Controls Inc. Technical Center in Holland on Wednesday, looking at how some of the company’s signature products, such as door panels and overhead systems for the automotive industry, go from the design page to the showroom floor.

Seventy Milwaukee teens, sponsored by Johnson Controls, (NYSE: JCI) are keeping busy this summer as participants of the Conservation Leadership Corps (CLC) summer youth employment program. Now in its fifth year, the Johnson Controls program promotes environmental stewardship, leadership, and teamwork skills through hands-on conservation projects in Milwaukee County parks. People seeking training for careers in renewable energy – especially solar power – will benefit from an ambitious project by Milwaukee Area Technical College and local firms.

The project includes a solar charging station for plug-in vehicles, a solar-powered highway sign demonstration and a training area for solar installers and electricians. They’re all built on portable concrete pads.

Wisconsin expands PACE legislation, becomes second state in the nation to allow PACE financing of water efficiency projects

By signing SB 624 in Green Bay yesterday as part of a package of economic development bills, Governor Jim Doyle has enhanced the power of local governments in Wisconsin to use property assessed clean energy (PACE) financing as a revenue-neutral tool to create jobs, reduce energy bills, and protect the global climate.

The bill expands Wisconsin’s existing legislation so that municipalities can now make commercial and industrial properties eligible to participate in PACE financing programs, in addition to the residential properties covered by legislation passed in May of last year. » More: Wisconsin expands PACE legislation, becomes second state in the nation to allow PACE financing of water efficiency projects

Johnson Controls and other businesses having a difficult time filling ‘green’ jobs

Johnson Controls Inc.’s building efficiency business is looking to expand hiring this year but can’t find qualified engineers – and expects to hire engineering students upon graduation and then train them, Jim Simpson, director of higher education at Johnson Controls, said at the Green Energy Summit on Friday.

“We simply can’t find enough people that are in the market to hire,” he said.

Milwaukee-area companies step up green energy efforts

Johnson Controls Inc. is expanding its advanced battery research and testing space at its Glendale headquarters, one sign of the Milwaukee area’s efforts in the race for green economy jobs.

Mary Ann Wright, a key Johnson Controls advanced battery executive, said the Glendale-based firm is matching dollar-for-dollar a $299 million stimulus grant that is aimed at creating a domestic supply chain for advanced batteries, a sector dominated by firms in China and other Asian countries.

Johnson Controls brings jobs to the Pee Dee, SC

Johnson Controls Inc. continues to jump-start the Pee Dee’s economy with a new automotive battery recycling facility in Florence County.

The new facility is expected to bring an initial capital investment of $100 million and 250 new jobs, Alex Molinaroli, president of Johnson Controls Power Solutions, said during the June ceremony at Florence-Darlington Technical College’s Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology.

Hispanic teens in Michigan find Johnson Controls job anything but dull

What seemed like a drab desk job at Johnson Controls Inc. came alive for Holland High School sophomore Abimael Bramasco after talking to an employee.

“I didn’t know they could get to travel a lot, go to China to talk about the product,” Bramasco said. “It sounds kind of cool.”
